PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net early on.

However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
